All you need to know about volunteering at the Olympics - check out the LOCOG 2012 web site by clicking this link.

London 2012 will depend on up to 70,000 volunteers to make sure the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games run smoothly and successfully.

Volunteers can be assured a life changing experience by getting involved as Games Makers. Over 300,000 people have so far registered their interest in volunteering as Games time volunteers.

Volunteers will carry out a range of essential tasks, from spectator services to language services and medical care.

When does the volunteer programme start?

The official Games-time Volunteer Programme launched on 27th July 2010 with pre-identified specialist volunteers - languages / medical care.

Everyone else will have to wait for the Generalist volunteer recruitment launch which will be on 15th September.

What will it take to be a Games time volunteer?

To be a Games Maker (Games time volunteer) you have to:

1. commit to volunteer a minimum of ten days at either, or both, Games

2. attend a minimum of three training sessions

3. be eligible to volunteer in the UK

4. agree to, and pass, security background checks

5. fund your own travel and accommodation

The Volunteer recruitment process will be online and Hertfordshire Volunteer Centres and Libraries will be offering access to the online process for people without home internet, or who need some assistance with the process. Watch this space for dates in September and October in your local library.
