  Valuing Volunteers in Herts

A major initiative to increase volunteering and good practice in volunteer management

A Volunteering Strategy for Hertfordshire 2009 - 2021

Volunteering contributes to community life, the personal well-being of Hertfordshire people and the county’s economy.

The aim of this strategy is to develop a collaborative and co-ordinated approach to building and maintaining a strong volunteering culture in Hertfordshire. The strategy is drawn up at a time when volunteering is high on national, regional, subregional and local agendas.

Endorsement, adoption and implementation of this strategy by stakeholders across all sectors will ensure a healthy future for volunteering. By 2021, the aim is for Hertfordshire communities to be stronger and for organisations to be working together on innovative volunteering initiatives using good practice in volunteer management. Individuals will be easily accessing information enabling them to get involved and volunteering will be developed, supported and promoted from a cross county network of quality volunteering development agencies.

The aim of this document is to provide a framework from which agencies across all sectors can develop volunteering strategies and action plans to suit their own areas of work.

Click here for a presentation which summarises the Volunteering Strategy for Hertfordshire.

The strategy will be signed off by the Volunteering Herts Strategy Workgroup in early July, so it's not too late to have your say! Please feedback any comments by Tuesday 30th June to heather@volunteerdacorum.org

A Volunteering Herts Strategy Working Group, with representatives from a variety of organisations, has drawn up a volunteering strategy for the county. The strategy will support the aims and objectives of the Herts Sustainable Community Strategy: Hertfordshire 2021. A Brighter Future.

Love volunteering

Thank you to our venue sponsors Lloyds Bar @ The Waterend Barn and also to Sopwell House Spa and Thornton's Chocolates who provided goodies for a prize draw.

"I want to do everything!" "Brilliant Event" so said volunteers and organisations at the event on. It was love at first sight for 40 potential volunteers with 24 local groups who had three minutes to seduce them to find their perfect match. Our event saw volunteers move from table to table in a whistle stop of first dates. At the end, volunteers chose who'd they'd have second dates with to find a partnership made in heaven. We got the thumbs up to repeat this event later in the year.

Volunteer Speed Matching

February 14th 2009 in Tring

The 4 minute "dates" allowed both volunteers and organisations a short time to decide whether they were right for each other. Just like in speed dating!

So what did everyone think of the event?

"A greatway to find out about volunteering!"
"Would have liked more time to find out more"

Sounds like there will be some second dates!
